Tucson MOVE Media was proud to host our inaugural  Athletes,  Artists, and Angels on the MOVE for Education event, which took place at the FOX Theatre Tucson,  on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.

Sponsored by Pima Federal Credit Union, with additional support from CP Graphics, this free event was open to the public and featured the Top 10 MOVE challenge tips, special performances and videos clips that promised to move and inspire the audience, and for those in attendance, that’s exactly what it did.

“In creating this event, it was our intention to create an opportunity for business, community, educational leaders and families to enjoy a special evening, downtown at the beautiful Fox Theatre, as we kick off a new school year, collaboratively.  Our showcase of performances, videos and challenge tips placed special emphasis on the importance of enriching the sports, arts, and science opportunities within the schools and our community,” said Lucy Howell, president of Tucson MOVE.

Live performances included a wide variety of performances by local “celebrities” including the legendary Jeff Haskell from the Tucson Jazz Society; 12-year-old pianist Cameron Williams; TUSD Superintendent John Pedicone; Women’s Commissioner Kathleen Williamson; Playability Toys CEO, Marty Fox; former UA Basketball star Joseph Blair; and more.

SCI Pride All-Star Cheer performed their national winning routine, and Tucson Meet Yourself Director, Mia Hansen, challenged everybody to get up and learn Beyonce’s “MOVE your BODY” dance. Nikki Macciulla performed a traditional Flamenco dance, as Randy and Tia Acetta challenged the audience to pick a challenge like a race or activity, like dancing, by the end of the year and to just do it.

Video segments throughout the evening highlighted various community groups striving to make Tucson a healthy community, including El Grupo, Kids Can Cook and Girls Making Media and Marty Fox demonstrated the Laser Beam, featured on page 62.
